Immigration Team

Our immigration team supports the work of CU Immigration Forum, Refugee Center and more

Want to help the C-U immigrant community? The first and most impactful way is to get to know your neighbors. Every person should know everyone on their block. They should talk about what to do if federal agents show up on their block. The resistance in Minneapolis has been so effective because they have been organizing by blocks and neighborhoods rather than by nonprofits or government agencies.

Champaign County Rapid Response Coalition  has a hotline for giving information on immigration enforcement activities in the local area. 779-235-0262. Information should be as complete as possible to limit confusion and panic.

If people want to get involved in rapid response directly, which is a big commitment and a higher risk, they should contact CCRRC directly through email - curapid@protonmail.com

Some of these organizations accept household items or need volunteers, and all take monetary donations to support their missions.

The Champaign-Urbana Immigration Forum

The Forum is a group of immigrants, students, clergy, service providers, labor union representatives, residents and community organizations concerned about the progress and plight of immigrants in the Champaign County community (Central Illinois).  Since December 2009, the C-U Immigration Forum meets regularly (on the second Tuesday of each month) to discuss immigration-related issues and events in our community.

Immigrant Services of Champaign-Urbana

ISCU supports their clients with groceries, health supplies, household goods, baby & toddler items, transportation, and rent and utility assistance.  Staff and volunteers also help families navigate to find resources, including securing medical care and available benefits, housing, jobs, English-as-a-Second-Language classes, legal assistance, and more depending on their individual needs.

The Refuge Center

The Refugee Center exists to provide services essential to refugee and immigrant resettlement in East Central Illinois, and to aid in the exchange and preservation of their respective cultures.

The New American Welcome Center

The New American Welcome Center works to co-create a community where all immigrants can thrive and flourish. We do this by engaging local institutions and mobilizing community resources to ensure equitable access to services, economic opportunity, and meaningful belonging. Our community-responsive programs include: Immigrant Family Services, Immigration Legal Services, and Community Bridge-Building.
